Hi all,

Its been long time since i wnated to start with Silverlight but b’cos of the internship, i cudn’t. Nyways my internship is nearing its end on 27th July, 07 (hopefully i’ll reach home on 29th). Now i can look forward to learn Silverlight.

For Silverlight, need to have a good understanding of .NET 3.0 architechture, specifically WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation). I am planning to do the same in this semester and hopefully learn a bit to get a headstart !;)

Toolset : Visual Studio C# 2008 ”Orcas” Express Edition Beta 1, Expression Blend and Design (i have them all.. ), and ofcourse Silverlight SDK

As the title says it all.. Miscrosoft is gearing up for biggest releases since Vista. The Visual Studio Family gets an Upgrade – the Visual Studio “Orcas” 2008 is already out on Beta 1. To download the Beta1, check out the following link -http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/vstudio/aa700831.aspx

Well the major upgrades on this family of VS (as far as i know.. will add in more as i come to know)

I am working on Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation . I just got 2 assignments of wich i completed 2nd one (higher priority ) n almost done with 1st one.. Well its taking lots of time to get along with the concepts and terms of VSTF, but as u thot, its easy for me

Well our team Novices@Work reached the National Finals of Microsoft Imagine Cup 2007.
It was a great experience altogether.. giving some bitter and some sweet moments..

What happened?

When your computer starts, the BIOS attempts to find the primary hard drive’s active partition to read the first sector for the MBR (Master Boot Record), it uses that info to load the rest of the OS.  For Windows NT4/2k/XP the NTLDR (New Technology Loader) takes it from there.  If you get the “NTLDR is missing, press any key to restart” what’s most likely going on is the BIOS either didn’t look for the right drive, didn’t find the right partition, it wasn’t active, didn’t find the MBR, or the MBR didn’t list NTLDR in the right place,  the location of NTLDR changed, or you are looking at a hardware failure situation (memory/cables/drive/motherboard/etc).

If possible, try to change back whatever hardware or software change you just made (this could be as simple as leaving a floppy disk in the drive or you need to recheck the cables). (What if I made new changes that I want to keep?).

Make a NTLDR boot disk to get back into Windows.

The quick test to make sure your OS installation is still good is to create an MBR and NTLDR on a floppy disk and check your partitions, this disk will check many of the partitions for a working windows installation.  Here are the instructions to do this:

1. Get a blank floppy (whatever is on it will be erased), and put it into a working computer (What if the computer doesn’t have a floppy drive?).

2. Download fixntldr.exe onto a working computer (fixntldr-winnt if you are using Windows 2000 or Windows NT4) (What if I don’t want to download a file from a website I don’t trust?). (What if my backup system is Mac / Linux or another alt OS?).

3. Run the fixntldr.exe file by double clicking it.  Click OK to overwrite the blank floppy disc in the working computer, you should see some screens about writing a new floppy disk.

4. Do you remember if the folder you had your Windows installation in was named “Windows”? If you can’t remember just keep going (What if it was not named Windows but WINNT like in NT4 or 2000?) .

5. Put the new floppy (or cd/usb drive) you have just created into the computer that gets the NTLDR is missing error message, turn the broken computer off.

Using the boot disk in the computer with the “NTLDR is missing” error.

Start back up the broken computer with the floppy in the floppy drive (or cd in cd drive or flash drive in usb port).  Once your computer gets past the BIOS screen your computer should try to access the floppy drive and you should see a black screen with white letters that says: (What if I don’t see this screen?).

This file is set up to automatically select the “1ST TRY THIS” choice after 30 seconds.  Try it first, if it was the wrong selection, you will likely get one of these four errors:

1. Windows could not start because file “<Windows Root>\system32\hal.dll was missing or corrupt

2. Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem. Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware. Please check the Windows documentation about hardware disk configuration and your hardware reference manuals for additional information.

3. I/O Error accessing boot sector file multi(0)disk(0)fdisk(0)\BOOTSECT.DOS

4. Immediate reboot

If you get the immediate reboot or some other weird error, try pressing F8 at the “1st Try This” selection screen, it will give you a prompt where you can select Safe Mode, and then try the “1st Try This” option again.  Safe Mode is a special “minimal” version of Windows that doesn’t load certain parts of the operating system that might have caused the problem.

One of the choices should eventually boot you back into Windows. (What if none of the options worked?) .

Use windows to fix the boot files on the hard drive.

If you got back into Windows, stop whatever you are doing and backup your most important information from this computer.

Now that you are done backing up the most important info, try to change back whatever you were last doing and boot normally, it that doesn’t work, put the floppy back into the broken computer and double click the fixntldr.bat file on the floppy drive, if it asks you to overwrite a file, just type in y for yes (the file copies boot.ini, ntldr, ntdetect.com from the floppy to the C:\ drive and removes the read only attributes). That process take a few minutes, then remove the floppy and reboot.

If you are using the cd or usb solution, copy the boot.ini, ntldr, and ntdetect.com files to My Computer > Local Disk C:\ > and overwite whatever files might be there, then right click each file, choose properties, uncheck the Read Only attribute, and click OK.

If you get back into Windows again, you can change that “1st Try This” menu by going into Start > Control Panel > System > Advanced tab > Startup and Recovery section, Settings button > System Startup; then change the “Default Operating System:” to the selection that worked for you, and change the box that says “Time to display list of operating systems” to however many seconds you want (usually 1 second). Click OK twice. (What if the bootdisk worked, but I can’t get into Windows without it?) .

When speaking to developers about WinFX one question that repeatedly comes up is, “WinFX sounds great, but what happens to .NET?” .NET Framework has becomes the most successful developer platform in the world.  Developers know and love .NET.

The .NET Framework has always been at the core of WinFX, but the WinFX brand didn’t convey this.  The WinFX brand helped us introduce the incredible innovations in terms of Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF), Windows Communication Foundation (WCF), Windows Workflow Foundation (WF) and the newly christened Windows CardSpace (WCS) formerly known under the codename “InfoCard.”  The brand also created an unnatural discontinuity between previous versions of our framework and the current version.

With this in mind we have decided to rename WinFX to the .NET Framework 3.0.  .NET Framework 3.0 aptly identifies the technology for exactly what it is – the next version of our developer framework.

The change is in name only and will not affect the technologies being delivered as part of the product. The .NET Framework 3.0 is still comprised of the existing .NET Framework 2.0 components, including ASP.NET, WinForms, ADO.NET, additional base class libraries and the CLR, as well as new developer-focused innovative technologies in WPF, WCF, WF and WCS:

Yesterday (23-04-2006)I attended a seminar by a so-called "Hacking Guru"
Ankit Fadia, at DAVV, Indore (MP) auditorium. I just want to share my
feelings with you.

The Seminar was a complete failure, though it was attended by about well
over 100 people, but was a complete disaster.

The very first thing by which I was offended badly was using the sacred
word "Hacking" to demonstrate something we, the hackers, call cracking.
The seminar topic was "Ethical Hacking", now I want to ask Mr Fadia,
what is unethical about hacking ? Hacking is very positive word and
there in no need to put "Ethical" before it. By the way his seminar
topic should be "Ethical Cracking".

If you really want to become a hacker, please read an article by a real
hacker, Eric Steven Raymond (ESR). The man who changed the history by
writing a paper "Cathedral and Bazaar". please read the article here :

The people who can not differentiate between hacking and cracking,
should read an article by the GOD of hackers Richad M Stallman (RMS),
the man who started GNU movement all by himself. The gcc (compiler), gdb
(debugger), emacs (editor) are some of the most popular softwares in the

The things Fadia demonstrated were ancient techniques used by crackers
to break into some one's machine. Now a days even 10 year olds can
download these tools from Internet to control others' machines. Can we
call them hackers ?? If he calls it hacking, I doubt if he understands
the term even "Cracking", leave hacking altogether. This childish
behavior is called script kiddie.

IP spoofing, SQL Injection, password cracking softwares, Trojan horse
programs, these are the tools of cyber criminals. So I wonder what is
the significance of the term "Ethical" here ??

In the entire session I kept waiting for some program or utility,
written by himself. But I don't thing he had something like this to
share with audience. The entire session was demonstration of third party
utilities, and the saddest thing was no mention of the name of any
author of any utility. He didn't care to give some credits to the
utility developers. What a shame !!!

Mr Fadia, I real hacker always respect the creativity of others, and
before using their work proper credits are given, this is the hacker's
attitude. It's not like that, you download something from Internet, use
it and forget the person, who made it. That's pretty mean.

Second most annoying thing was that he calls himself a "hacker" and was
using a Windows XP operating system ????

I have been in to computers for the past 10 years and I never come
across any real hacker who uses Windows. I met Brian(Apache creator),
Andy Cleen, Alon cox, Rusty (all networking gods), RMS (the GOD himself)
but all of them were using some or other form of Unix or Linux.

Come on, MR Fadia, Windows is the worst OS in the world, full of
security holes, so what is the point to break into a Windows machine
???? What do you want to prove ????

He only once mentioned Linux, just to tell how you can use it's live CD
to boot a Windows machine and cracke the password.

Actually, before attending the seminar, I Googled a lot about Fadia and
just want to share my findings with you.  

Vulnerabilities patches by Fadia = 0 (He may know how to
break in, but doesn't know how to fix up)

Bugtraq id's by Fadia = 0

Hacking / Security tool by fadia = 0 (He simply Goolge and
download the tools from Internet, that's not cracking. Actual cracker
is the
programmer, but Fadia never ever gives due credits. Now that's not
hacking, that's stealing)

Any open source software by Fadia = 0 (He is afraid of suggesting
Linux to people, 'coz it's secure)

Any Linux or Windows software security patch = 0
Any recommendation or recognition by Real Hacker Community = 0
(They laugh at him. He is just a kid)

Software / Cryptography patents by Fadia = 0

Algorithms by Fadia = 0
Any official citation by FBI/CIA/CBI for Fadia = 0 (They don't
even bother about any explanation)

Any confirmation of his self-claims = 0 (Nobody,
expect him knows, if they are real)

Any confirmation of him decrypting Osama's message = 0
(Hahahahahahahaha)

Any original technical tutorial or book by Fadia = 0 (He simply
copy the things and never he never ever gives due credits to the
original authors.)

Any originality in his tutes or books = 0 (Hahahahahahaha)

Skill level of Fadia = Only God
knows !!!

tried to read a few books by him, but to my wonder some part of his
books are nothing but simple "copy and paste" material from well known
sites for Windows registry editing. Please visit www.winguides.com and
compare the material with his first book. Oh God ! this is the clear
violation of intellectual property rights of the website. Please inform
the webmaster. I have done it already.

I was astonished by the course he came to promote here, "Ethical hacker
certified by Ankit Fadia" ! He sill is child in hacking field, and he is
giving the certificates for hacking ????? And worst thing, Reliance web
world is promoting it. What a shame !!! Have all gone mad ? Can't they see?

Unfortunately, question and answer round was cut from the seminar,
that's also because of Fadia arrived there one hour late. Well, that's
India's celebrity style statement. Otherwise, I would have asked all
these questions to him there only.

Anyways, I went to him at the end of the seminar, and asked if Windows
is so vulnerable, can he suggest audience to use Linux rather than
Windows. And the reply came was straight "NO". What a shame ???

I understood the reason, why he said no. The reason is same why
Mic*ft does not patch up it's OS. Plain economics. If you make system
secure with Linux who is going to ask for people like Fadia, so called
"security expert" ???

want to make an appeal to all of you, please make all of your friends
aware of these facts. Let one should not get undeserved advantage. I
also want to appeal news papers, please do not make a hero out of
nothing. Stop polluting the honest media by prejudiced reports.

And at the end I want to tell Mr Fadia, that I don't have any personal
problem with you or your achievements, but please behave properly in
hacking community. We hackers are very positive people we never ever try
to harm anybody, until he comes to our or our philosophy's way. Please
stop calling your self a hacker, if does not understand the hacker culture.

And for god sake, stop behaving like a child, now you are in college, so
GROW UP !!!

Though I was more eager to learn about cracking then hacking and his talk was on cracking stuff … but it was all crap. He was showing all old stuff :- simple password crackers, googled trojans, anonymous proxy servers, stenography and bla bla bla. These are all 10 years old. He learned these when he was 12 and I guess he learned nothing afterwards. And yes none of those were his own. I don’t understand how he got the celebrity status. Hope he learns something at MIT. Or has he joined harvard? These two were his options when he came here in hyderabad.

   May 29th, 2006 at 5:36 am Fadia is a total fag!..he calls himself a hacker!..a real hacker will never boast around and ride on a media hype wave..real hackers are silently working in the dark alleys of the internet..their aim is just to prove that..this can be done..many hackers dont break into systems and manipulate data..crackers do that..Fadia is a total script kiddie..he uses tools/scripts/techniques created by others – he jsut educated people about these known techniques..nothing original..if you visit a couple of sites about hacking..even you can start giving lectures on this..I jsut can’t believe this guy..at one of his seminars..he boasted that he could control anybody’s PC..he then demonstrated it on one of our lab pc’s..everyone was astonished..he was using a trojan ..i think BO or SUB7..Man..Then he gave a long lecture about how trojans can cause security threats and how he can formulate a protection stratergy for our lab..give me a break!!..my 12 year old son knows about trojans..this guy is just taking advantage of the ignorant and lesser computer savy people..

   His resume claims that he works for the CBI and even the FBI!!…I just can’t control my laughter here…the FBI!!..afain the FBI!! ..LOl…they come all over from the USA..cos they just can’t find a whiz kid in the USA..they come to India and say “Ohh great and all knowing hacker of all times.Mr Fadia..please help us..please decrupt this email..find the source of this email..get laden for us!”…people like him should stop this nonsense..if you are really a hacker..prove it man.

Microsoft delays Top Notch ReleasesAfter confirming the delay of Vista to late May 2007 release, Microsoft confirmed the delay of Office 2006 to 2007. Also Microsoft has massively reorganized its Platforms & Services Division, which will now be made up of eight groups. The idea, the company says, is to better align its Windows and MSN efforts with its new "Live strategy."

Mozilla Firefox 2 Alpha 1 version released

It's Official Dell Acquired Alienware

Dell just confirmed today that it had acquired boutique PC vendor Alienware. Alienware's Nelson Gonzalez said that his company will continue on with its own brand, design, sales and marketing, and support, though, so Alienware isn't going anywhere just yet. Gonzalez also said that Alienware PCs would not carry a Dell logo, and that he would report directly to Jim Schneider, Dell's chief financial officer. "I think that you'll find it very hard to find the Dell name on the [Alienware] web site," he said." The rumor is now fact.

Google Pages launched

Google released the first public beta of its Google Pages service, allowing users who signed up for the service in January and February to begin creating personal websites using an easy-to-use, browser-based tool. The service gives each user 100 MB of free storage space on Google's servers. To use the Google Page Creator tool, users must have an existing Google account. However, only those who signed up early (in January and February) to use Google Pages have access to the current beta. No new signups are being accepted at this time, Google said. The company is expected to open Page Creator to more widespread use over the next few weeks.

Man Flocks Really goooood and same fer Firefox 1.5. Both are gr8 in capabilities and Flock is just in starting stage and the look and the feel is way too good. otugh competetion for IE 7 when it actually lands next year. Will Write about it in again after experimentin a few more days…..

The new version of the best browser in the world, Firefox, is out. I just installed it, it’s faster, seems snappier and everything works as far as extensions except GreaseMonkey, but you can download a version from here that does work with 1.5. You can also make old extensions work with this little trick too.

The free open source database leader MySQL has some new competition from expensive enterprise database leader Oracle. The company on Monday unveiled a beta release of 10g Express Edition, otherwise known as Oracle Database XE, which is free to develop, deploy and distribute.

UPDATED Microsoft and Yahoo announced on Wednesday a blockbuster interoperability deal that will reshape the landscape of the fragmented instant messaging market. The companies will connect their IM networks so users on each can communicate with one another using text and voice chat free of charge.

Starting in the second quarter of 2006, customers of both services will be able to see their friends’ online presence, share emoticons, and add new contacts from either Yahoo! Messenger or MSN Messenger to their buddy list.

The agreement marks the first time major players in the highly-competitive IM industry have officially partnered up to enable cross-network communication. Interoperability has always been a hot topic among instant messaging providers, but had never yielded a compromise.

In 1999, Microsoft connected its MSN Messenger client to AOL’s AIM network – without authorization. The move let to a cat-and-mouse game of AOL cutting off its new competitor and MSN re-establishing communication with each update. Microsoft eventually gave up and focused on improving its client.

Such disparate messaging networks led to the creation of third party clients with the ability to connect to each simultaneously. AOL and others were initially critical of applications like Trillian, but eventually backed down and ceased efforts to block the newcomers.

“IM interoperability is the right thing for our customers, our businesses and the industry as a whole, and Microsoft is delighted to help lead these efforts with Yahoo,” said Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer in a statement.

“This is truly a turning point for the IM industry,” added Yahoo CEO Terry Semel, “and we believe our agreement with Microsoft will help usher in a new era of IP communications.”

Yahoo and Microsoft will now command upwards of 44 percent of the market, according to research firm Radicati Group, putting new pressure on market leader AOL, which holds around 56 percent market share with AIM and ICQ. And according to recent comScore Media Metrix numbers, MSN Messenger and Yahoo! Messenger together reach 33.5 million unique users each month, more than the 23 million running AIM.

But competing with AOL is likely not the primary reason Microsoft and Yahoo have linked up. The new threat to the IM heavyweights comes from voice chat and upstarts such as Skype that have taken the communications industry by storm. Google, meanwhile, recently launched a communications client called Google Talk that focuses on simple PC-to-PC calling.

Still, a source at Yahoo expressed concern about the new partnership to BetaNews, hypothesizing that interoperability will only serve to strengthen Microsoft’s position in the market.

Recently, IM software clients have evolved to link consumers to other services beyond just chat – from blogs to search. And if users are able to message contacts on Yahoo through the MSN client bundled with Windows, it could hamper Yahoo’s efforts to reach more eyeballs.

Microsoft is also reported to be in talks with Time Warner, and a deal to open the door between MSN Messenger and AIM has been rumored. However, nothing concrete has come from the discussions thus far.

The milestones keep coming for the little browser that could, and the Mozilla Foundation now has a new reason to celebrate: on Wednesday morning, downloads for Firefox surpassed 100 million. The second major release of Firefox, version 1.5, is due later this fall.
